Wisconsin DOT Encourages Safe Driving Practices During Thanksgiving Weekend

(Dodge County) The motoring public is encouraged to practice safe driving practices over the Thanksgiving weekend. According to the AAA, nearly 1.6 million Wisconsinites will travel to their destinations this holiday.

Peak travel times are anticipated between 1pm and 5pm Wednesday, 7am to 10am Friday, 4pm to 8pm on Saturday, and noon to 6pm on Sunday.

The state’s Department of Transportation Secretary Kristina Boardman says they are thankful to the people who work around the clock to keep highways safe including emergency responders, highway workers, DOT staff, and many more. She asks the public to work together on safe, responsible driving behaviors so everyone can make it to their destinations safely this holiday season.

While most highway projects are winding down for the 2024 construction season, a few remaining projects may impact travels over the next couple of days. That includes in Columbia County, where three lanes are open in each direction on the Interstate 39/90/94 bridge over the Wisconsin River south of Portage. Drivers are asked to watch for lane shifts and reduced speed limits.
