(Wisconsin) The 2024 bow deer hunting season started a little earlier than normal this year. Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Deer Program Specialist Jeff Pritzl says hunters can expect to see plenty of deer this season.
“Deer sightings should be on the increase this year and that’s coming off of a record mild winter that we had last year which tends to result in greater fawn productivity and so potentially be seeing more during the landscape that won’t necessarily translate into an increase in harvest,” says Pritzl.
Department of Natural Resources Recreation Warden Nick Webster is emphasizing safety getting in and out of tree stands.
“Make sure they’re wearing their full body harness going up and down…when you’re up in the tree, make sure you’re using a tether…what the tether does is it kind of helps keep you in the stand itself,” says Webster. “And then also having a safe stand over time the sun degrades straps, harnesses, connection points so to make sure that stuffs all really good working order.”
