Wisconsin Attorney General Advises Against Vigilante Activity

(Madison) Attorney General Josh Kaul is advising citizens to stop engaging in, and just as importantly stop supporting, vigilante activities. Kaul recently released a statement saying that law enforcement officers have seen an increase in citizens attempting to lure suspected online predators with sting operations. These are then filmed and posted online as a form of public exposure. He warns that these activities could put all involved as well as innocent bystanders in danger. Moreover, he adds that it could jeopardize ongoing law enforcement operations and prosecutions. In addition, Kaul says, the public exposure could lead the suspect to move to a different online platform, or in extreme cases cause the suspect to lash out violently towards others. Instead, the Attorney General says if you or someone you know has information about potential child exploitation you can report it to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children at 1-800-843-5678 or https://report.cybertip.org/ or contact your local law enforcement office.
