William H. “Bill” Johnson, age 90, of Beaver Dam, died peacefully on Monday, July 26, 2021, at Clearview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Juneau.
The memorial gathering will be at Koepsell-Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 from 12:00 noon until 1:00 pm. The memorial service will follow at the funeral home on Wednesday with Celebrant John R. Leiting officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the John E. Miller American Legion Post #146.
William Harold Johnson was born on May 30, 1931 to Harold and Violet (Briske) Johnson in the Town of Lewiston, Columbia County, Wisconsin. He served in the United States Army from 1948 until 1952, during the Korean Conflict. Bill was an 82nd Airborne and received a ROC Ribbon as well as a Purple Heart. He was a Lifetime member of Past Commanders Club of the DAV, American Legion Post #146 member, and was a commander of the Disabled Vets from 1991 until 1993. On March 15, 1969, he was united in marriage with Ruth Ulbricht-Hamilton in Beaver Dam. Bill worked as a correctional officer at Waupun Corrections for 15 years, then worked for Kraft in Beaver Dam for 15 years, retiring in 1979. Bill spent many years in retirement working as a crossing guard for the Beaver Dam School District.
Bill is survived by his step children, David (Roxanne) Hamilton of Lost Lake, CA, Greg Hamilton of Watertown, and Deborah Hicks of Beaver Dam; nine grandchildren and many great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in 2002; a sister, Phyllis Keegan; a brother, Donald Johnson; and step children, Sandra Redman, James Hamilton, and Robert “Dewey” Hamilton.
