WIAA Girls State Tournament Preview

The WIAA Girls State Tournament is set to get underway Thursday at the Resch Center in Green Bay. The Beaver Dam Golden Beavers (23-2) enter as reigning Division 2 State Champions and heavy favorites to repeat. Leading scorers Matyson Wilke and Tara Stauffacher are averaging 11.9 and 11.1 points-per-game respectively for Tim Chase’s squad, which is currently riding a 14 game win streak. Their state semi-final opponent is Hortonville (20-6). The Polar Bears are paced by Shay Frederick who is scoring 16.5 points-per-game and Macy McGlone who is averaging 9.1 rebounds-per-game. Beaver Dam will play Hortonville on Friday at 1:35pm, the game will be aired on both 1430 WBEV and 95.3 WXRO. WBEV will join the broadcast following Community Comment. The winner will advance to play either New Berlin Eisenhower or Monroe.

Making their third ever appearance at state and first since 1977 are the Marshall Cardinals (25-1). The Capital South Champions have three freshman including Mia Morel, Anna Lutz, and Laura Nickel averaging more than 10 points-per-game.  Up first for Marshall, is Wisconsin Dells (25-1). The Chiefs have won 24 straight games and are led by Jenna Mace who brings an impressive stat line of 18 points-per-game, 5 rebounds-per-game, 3 assists-per-game, and 3.6 steals-per-game. Wisconsin Dells Katelyn Meister is also averaging 19.7 points-per-game. Marshall will play Wisconsin Dells on Thursday at 1:35pm, the game will be aired on 95.3 WXRO. The winner will advance to play either Saint Thomas More or Amherst.
