Pre-Game/Event Routine To Get Focused For Competition Include…

I listen to music and keep to myself, it helps me get intense and in the zone.  I can’t have any distractions before games.  Then when I get on the field or court I am fully gassed up to dominate, connect with my teammates and give 110%.

Advice You Would Give To A Freshman High School Athlete

To all freshmen, GET IN THE WEIGHTROOM AND PUT IN EXTRA WORK OUTSIDE PRACTICE!  When I was a freshman I was short, skinny and unathletic.  Ever since I started lifting and eating healthier I grew 6 inches and gained 80 pounds of muscle.  It is really important!  Getting faster, stronger, and gaining the ability to jump higher will help you in every sport.  Also… work on individual skills in your free time!  Putting up extra shots after practices and heading to the soccer field after work are things that are essential to my success.  You can’t get better by doing nothing and whenever you are being lazy, someone is working hard and getting better than you.

A Person(s) Who Had A Major Impact On My Athletic Career & Why Is…

The number one person who has had an impact on my athletic career would be my soccer coach Gregg Zonnefeld.  I went out for soccer Sophomore year having never played before in my life.  I thought I was horrible but he believed in me and told me I had potential to be a good player.  With his help and motivation, I started on varsity that year, the next year, and this year (senior year) as an outside defender.  He also introduced me to the soccer community and you really feel like you are part of a family, it has had such a positive impact on me.  If you would’ve told me coming into high school that I would be a significant varsity athlete playing soccer I would’ve said you’re crazy.  But with a positive and encouraging leader, mixed with hard work, anything is possible.

Plans For After Graduation

My plans for next year are really up in the air.  Some colleges have shown interest in me to play basketball or soccer but I haven’t decided where I am going yet or what my decision is with playing sports in college.  I do know that I want to major in business/marketing and minor in psychology.  I either want to be a school counselor or work in business and public relations.  Eventually, my goal is to get married and raise a family, but that’s a little further down the road.  We’ll see what God has in mind.

Favorite High School Teacher & Why

I like all of my teachers.  They all are nice and care a lot about me personally and my studies.  Mr. Z has helped me in many situations and teaches us life lessons that will be really important.  Mrs. Schouten teaches my favorite subject and cares a lot about what’s going on in the personal lives of her students.  Mr. Hofman makes all of us laugh and is super good at teaching math.  Mr. Smies knows so much about politics and is great at teaching us about government in a non-biased way and Mrs. Ritzema is a really nice, kind and friendly person.
