West Bend Man Heading To Trial For Dodge County Interstate Chase

12/29/17 – A West Bend man accused of running from police is heading to trial. Calvin Joseph Werner waived his right to a preliminary hearing Thursday on one felony count of Fleeing or Eluding an Officer. Earlier this month, a Dodge County deputy was patrolling Interstate 41 near Lomira as part of the Dodge County Sheriffs Office crash reduction initiative. After a short time, the deputy spotted Werner allegedly traveling at speeds near 100 miles-per-hour just south of Highway 67. During the chase that followed, Werner reportedly passed several vehicles and hit an idled truck as he exited at Highway 28. The deputy then lost visual contact with Werner and called off the pursuit. A Washington County sheriff’s deputy later apprehended the 21-year-old. According to the criminal complaint, Werner admitted to his actions and said he panicked when he saw the police. If convicted, Werner faces up to three-and-a-half years in prison. An arraignment hearing is scheduled for January 10.
