West Allis Man Accused Of Running From Waupun Police

(Waupun) A West Allis man accused of fleeing police in Waupun made his initial appearance in court Monday. Samuel Vasquez is facing a felony count of Fleeing as well as several misdemeanor drug charges.  A Waupun officer spotted a vehicle Sunday evening near South State Street with a busted headlamp. According to the criminal complaint, police noticed an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle as they approached. When asked to search the car, Vasquez allegedly said he could not give permission because it was not his. As the officer attempted to open the driver side door Vasquez reportedly sped off at a high rate of speed. A pursuit that lasted just under a mile ensued. Vasquez was allegedly clocked going over 85-miles-per-hour in a 25-mile-per-hour zone. He eventually stopped at a dead end on Pluim Drive and apologized, reportedly saying that he (quote) “had no reason to run.” A search of the vehicle allegedly turned up drug paraphernalia. If convicted, the 25-year-old faces roughly five years behind bars. A signature bond was set at $5,000 and a judge will decide in February if there is enough evidence to order a trial.
