WEDC Grant To Reinvigorate Downtown Beaver Dam Lot

(Beaver Dam) A sparsely used lot in downtown Beaver Dam will see some big changes in its future thanks to a $145,600 site clean-up grant from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation. During an announcement Monday in the downtown, WEDC Secretary Missy Hughes outlined the details of the grant. Known as the site assessment grant, Hughes says the funds will help the community reinvigorate the property.

The lot located at the corner of Ryan Cantafio’s Way and South Center Street houses unused buildings, and underground petroleum and hazardous material tanks that need specialty removal due to asbestos abatement requirements. The location was also identified in prior environmental surveys as contaminated with waste engine oil at the soil level.

Hughes went on to praise city leaders and developer Kaba Bah, who seek to bring value back to the downtown property. He says the plan is to construct a multi-use building to generate business space and tax revenue for the city.

Mayor Becky Glewen noted that the multi-use development would have an impact on one of the city’s biggest needs: housing. She pointed out the development would include a housing component, calling it workforce housing right in the center of Beaver Dam.
