11/23/17 – Here is something to be thankful for: this year’s record-setting tally for the WBEV-WXRO Children’s Radiothon turned out to be even higher than first reported. This past June’s 27-hour marathon broadcast raised money for ten Dodge County-area non-profit agencies that work with kids. The initial total announced in the hours after the fundraiser wrapped-up was $126,852.74… a number that exceeded the previous record set in 2012 of $121,949. The revised figure calculated this week puts the 2017 Radiothon total at $133,052.74. WBEV-WXRO General Manager Ryan Gabel says there were last minute donations that came in after the first tally. In addition, Gabel noted the number of listeners who would purchase an item for $25 and when it came time to pay for the item, they would write a check for $250 or $500. Over 20 years, the Radiothon has raised just over $1.8-million dollars. Ten organizations were presented with a check from the Radiothon on Wednesday. That includes PAVE People Against A Violent Environment, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Dodge County and the Watertown Community, Green Valley Enterprises, YMCA of Dodge County, Clothes For Kids, the Watertown Family Center, ARC Dodge County, Community Care Preschool and Child Care, the Beaver Dam Area Arts Association and – new this year – Church Health Services.
