Waupun Undecided On How To Use ARPA Grant Dollars

(Waupun) Waupun is one of several communities across the country to benefit from the American Rescue Plan Act.  The grant money received will be held in a fund until a determination is made on how to spend it. Waupun officials have until 2024 to spend an estimated $1.17-million dollars.

City Administrator Kathy Schlieve explained the need to establish the separate fund to the common council this week. Schlieve says that the best practice advised by the Federal Treasury office is to carve out a special fund for the ARPA dollars as there will be a lot of audit requirements and reporting needing to be done on the funds.  She says the newly established fund will make the whole process much easier.

Waupun expects to see the first of two installments deposited into the fund on or around the 25th of June, with the second to arrive twelve months later. The city has no immediate plans in place for how to spend the money, but Schlieve says the council should anticipate an August workshop to establish a preliminary plan.
