Waupun Senior Center Designated ‘Dementia-Friendly’

(Waupun) The Waupun Senior Center has been designated as “dementia-friendly.” A new group, Dementia Friendly Dodge, recently announced that the center has been awarded their Purple Angel. The recognition comes after senior center staff was trained, and their environment assessed, earlier this month. That yielded suggestions on improvements that could be made. Rachel Kaminski, Recreation Program Director at the Waupun Senior Center, says small changes can make a big difference for someone with dementia. The process not only includes the Waupun Senior Center becoming dementia-friendly but also the training of other city departments to become dementia-friendly as well. A ribbon cutting ceremony is planned in coming weeks. Dementia Friendly Dodge is a coalition that formed in February comprised of individuals, businesses and organizations. Their purpose is to help communities throughout Dodge County enact changes that improve lives with continued education, support and acceptance of those with memory impairment.
