Waupun Seeking State Grant Dollars For Municipal Facilities Project

(Waupun) The Waupun Common Council this week approved a plan to seek state grant dollars for an unidentified municipal building project. If approved for the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), officials would look to a recent facilities survey to determine which projects could be completed within a 24-month window. Waupun Economic Development Coordinator Sarah Van Buren says the application process has a tight schedule for eligibility. The city would have to follow an aggressive grant schedule, with the application being available near the end of January with the application needing to be in the hands of the Wisconsin Department of Administration no later than the end of May. In order to qualify for the block grant funds, the city must select a project that meets strict criteria. That includes the creation of a Citizen Participation plan. This would include the creation of a committee of five-to-eight members and must include membership from the low-and middle-income population. Once a project is selected, the 50-percent matching grant would require the city pay all costs up front to a maximum of $500-thousand dollars.
