Waupun Mayor Credits All Involved In Minimizing Dangers Of Gas Leak

(Waupun) The Waupun mayor says everyone involved in handling the response to a gas leak in the city last Friday acted quickly and professionally. Rohn Bishop says that includes the police and fire departments that responded after a piece of construction equipment struck a gas main in the area of South Madison and Doty Streets.

About 20 homes had to be evacuated and power was shut off for about 350 customers. Bishop says City Administrator Kathy Schlieve had the Senior Center open for people who might need temporary shelter.

He also credits the Waupun Utility and Alliant Energy. Bishop says thankfully no one was injured and although some people were inconvenienced for a few hours it ended without incident.
