3/31/17 – A Waupun man will head to trial for a vehicle chase which involved dragging a Dodge County Sheriff’s lieutenant a short distance. Matthew Ellcey waived his right to a preliminary hearing on felony counts Obstructing an Officer and Fleeing and Eluding a Traffic Officer Resulting in Bodily Harm. During a traffic stop earlier this month, the lieutenant reached in the vehicle to try and stop Ellcey who was slowly putting his vehicle into gear on Highway 49. The officer was later treated at Waupun Memorial Hospital and released. The 23-year-old headed to Waupun where he crashed his vehicle and took off on foot before being caught. If convicted, Ellcey is facing up to 12-years in prison. An arraignment hearing is scheduled for April 26.
