(Waupun) A Waupun man was found guilty Tuesday of hindering the apprehension of a reckless homicide suspect. Steven Bierman pled no contest to a reduced misdemeanor count of Obstructing an Officer. On May 5th, Waupun police were dispatched to Bierman’s apartment complex to look for Cara Zech who had a felony warrant for her arrest through Fond du Lac County. For roughly an hour-and-a-half, officers attempted to enter Bierman’s apartment, but he would not answer the door. Zech eventually exited and was taken into custody. When police questioned Bierman, he said that Zech arrived at his apartment roughly a half-hour before police to change her clothes and take a shower. Bierman said that Zech told him not to answer the door and that he wanted to give Zech time to make a few phone calls. Zech and two others are being prosecuted in Fond du Lac County court for the drug overdose death of 23-year-old Steven Compton of Fond du Lac, who died in July of last year. The 65-year-old was fined $500 to be paid in $100 installments the first of the month beginning November 1st. If he is unable to pay, Bierman will serve 30 days in jail.
