Waupun Man Convicted Of Injuring Officer In Chase

7/18/17 – A Waupun man who sparked a police chase that resulted in injuries to a sheriff’s lieutenant entered into a plea agreement Monday with Dodge County prosecutors. Matthew Ellcey pled no contest to felony Obstructing an Officer Resulting in Bodily Harm. A second felony count of Fleeing and Eluding an Officer was dismissed but read into the record. During a traffic stop on Highway 49 in March, the lieutenant reached in the car to try and stop Ellcey who was slowly putting his vehicle into gear. The 23-year-old dragged the lieutenant a short distance before heading to Waupun where he crashed his vehicle and took off on foot before being apprehended. The officer was treated and released from Waupun Memorial Hospital. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for September 21.
