Waupun Man Charged With Assault

2/21/17 – A Waupun man is accused of having inappropriate contact with a minor. Jeremy Priest is charged with felony Sexual Assault of a Child Under the Age of 16, which carries a maximum 40-year prison sentence if he is convicted. The 22-year-old met the girl on a dating website in January and she claimed at the time to be 19-years-old. Priest traveled from Wisconsin to Galesburg, Illinois to pick the girl up and then drove her back to his Waupun residence where the alleged assault occurred. Prosecutors say Priest knew the girls age even though she misrepresented herself on her online profile. That’s because prior to the assault while en route to Waupun, Priest was pulled over by Beaver Dam police for a broken taillight and learned the girls age. When he arrived back at the victim’s house, her parents blocked his car from leaving the driveway, took his phone and called police. Priest had a signature bond set at $1000 yesterday and a judge will decide in April if there is enough evidence to order a trial.
