Waupun Man Appears On Harboring A Felon Charges

(Waupun) A Waupun man made his initial appearance in court Monday on charges that he hindered the apprehension of a reckless homicide suspect. Steven Bierman is charged with one felony count of Harboring or Aiding a Felon.

On May 5th, Waupun police were dispatched to Biermanโ€™s apartment complex to look for Cara Zech who had a felony warrant for her arrest through Fond du Lac County. For roughly an hour-and-a-half, officers attempted to gain entry into Biermanโ€™s apartment, but he allegedly would not answer the door. Zech eventually exited and was taken into custody.

When police questioned Bierman, he reportedly said that Zech arrived at his apartment roughly a half-hour before police to change her clothes and take a shower. Bierman reportedly said that Zech told him not to answer the door and that he wanted to give Zech time to make a few phone calls.

Zech and two others are being prosecuted in Fond du Lac County court for the drug overdose death of 23-year-old Steven Compton of Fond du Lac, who died in July of last year.

If convicted, the 65-year-old Bierman faces no more than ten years in prison. Signature bond was set at $1,000 and a judge will decide in August if there is enough evidence to order a trial.
