Waupun Launches New Alert Notification System

(Waupun) Citizens in Waupun have a new service available that will alert them of any local alerts. The city has partnered with Nixle to implement a Community Notification System to warn residents in real-time of localized emergencies and relevant community advisories. The warnings can be sent via text, email, web, social media and by the Nixle Mobile app. Nixle provides a mass communications hub built exclusively for government to provide secure, reliable and relevant information to the public. Emergency Management Director and Waupun Fire Chief BJ DeMaa says with tornado and server weather awareness week upon us, it is critical that residents receive information needed to ensure public safety. He says sirens will continue to be a primary way to mass alert the general public, however with Nixle, registered users will receive a real-time message to their mobile device with further details about the threat that a siren cannot provide. DeMaa adds that the program integrates well with their existing social media platforms and will play an important role in the future, allowing the city to push time-sensitive information to those who have signed up. There are two ways for citizens to register for alerts, by texting WAUPUN to 888777 from your mobile phone. The other option is by visiting the city website and signing up through the Nixle widget.
