(Waupun) Waupun Community Coalition on Aging has sponsored new pedestrian crossing flags in the downtown area. The flags have been installed at three intersections on Main Street: at Main and Fond du Lac, at Main and Mill, and at Main and Harris. Mayor Julie Nickel says they have long heard the concerns about crossing Main Street and they are hoping these flags will help. As part of the work being done by the City’s Department of Public Works and the Waupun Community Coalition on Aging, city leaders say this is one example of a low-cost, highly effective strategy for improving pedestrian safety for all ages within the community. The project was also an opportunity for the two groups to collaborate with Warrior Fabrication and Repair, at the Waupun Area High School, for the creation and fabrication of the flags.
