Waupun Hosting Open House As Part Of Fire Prevention Week

(Waupun) The Waupun Fire Department is hosting a series of events this week in support of this year’s National Fire Prevention Week campaign. The theme is “Not Every Hero Wears a Cape. Plan and Practice Your Escape!” works to educate people about the small but important actions they can take to keep themselves and those around them safe.

Waupun Fire Chief BJ DeMaa says situational awareness is a skill people need to develop and use wherever they go. No matter where you are, he says, look for available exits. He says if the alarm system sounds, take it seriously and exit the building immediately.

The Waupun Fire Department is teaming up with the National Fire Protection Association, the official sponsor of Fire Prevention Week, to promote the campaign. In addition to school and day care visits, a community service open house will be held tonight from 5pm to 8pm at the Waupun Safety Building. There will be fire extinguisher training, side-by-side burn demonstrations, the survive alive house, fire truck displays and a meet-n-greet with Sparky the fire dog.
