(Waupun) A home in Waupun was significantly damaged by fire over the weekend. The Waupun Fire Department was called to 502 South West Street around 8:23pm Saturday for a garage fire.
Upon arrival, crews found a vehicle burning in the attached garage and it had started spreading to the structure. Fire Chief B.J. DeMaa says multiple fire extinguishers were discharged to no avail. All occupants were out of the house and firefighters quickly knocked down the blaze in the garage before making their way into the home to check for fire extension.
DeMaa says crews did find flames in the attic and that was also quickly extinguished. He adds that there are no initial damage estimates to the property, which is owned by Doug and Deb Darnick, but the house is uninhabitable.
An investigation is ongoing however, it is believed that the fire originated in the vehicle’s engine compartment. No injuries were reported, and personnel were on scene for three hours working on fire suppression and overhaul.
