Waupun Common Council Honors Firefighters in Pinning Ceremony

(Waupun) The Waupun City Council honored three members of the Waupun Fire Department during a council meeting last Tuesday.  Michelle Fenz, Heather Shoemaker, and Emily Truttmann took the oath of office as part of the ceremony commemorating their advancement from probationary roles within the department, to being paid on-call members of the Waupun Fire Department.  Fire Chief B.J. DeMaa said during the ceremony that each firefighter has invested over 200 hours in training and education on top of their normal duties as firefighters.  Michelle Fenz joined the department in august of 2017 and has completed state certification Fire Fighter 1, as well as Hazmat Operations training.  Heather Shoemaker joined the department also in august of 2017, has completed state certification Fire Fighter 1, Fire Fighter 2, fire inspector, and Driver/Operator/Pumper all while being part of Waupun’s Rapid Intervention Team and is pursing a degree in fire science.   Shoemaker has also accepted a full-time position with Fond Du Lac Fire and Rescue.  Emily Truttmann, who also joined the department in late 2017, has completed state certification Fire Figher 1, Hazmat Operations, and entry level driver operator. The families for each honoree were on hand and the fathers of each had the privilege of pinning on their daughters’ badges.
