Waupun Boys Soccer Hopes To Continue Winning Ways This Spring

After a year and a half off the pitch, the Waupun boys soccer team is excited to get their alternate-fall season going this spring.

The Warriors have nearly 40 players out for soccer this season and return a pair of 1st team All-East Central Conference players to their squad this spring in seniors Cole Hicken and Trevor Roecker.

“Hicken is just an absolute stud playing our center back. He’s a captain of the team and is able to control the pace of play and the other defenders to give them encouragement and point out where they need to be and where the help is.  He’s a definite leader in the backfield.”  Head Coach Jason Buchholz told DailyDodge.com. “Trevor Roeker is just an amazing soccer player.  He plays club year-round and definitely shows it out on the field with his skill and his ability to move around players and distribute the ball.  He’s the heart and soul in the center mid.“

As for the season, Buchholz is happy his team has been able to schedule a thirteen game season this spring.

“This spring, win or lose, we are giving the kids an opportunity to enjoy the sport that many of them grew up playing, and hopefully with the seniors we have one last opportunity to play, where last spring a bunch of seniors lost opportunities in spring sports and some of these guys were worried about losing out on their soccer career.”  Buchholz said.  “I think we want to have the kids have fun, enjoy it and keep our winning ways going on.”

Waupun, along with Campbellsport and Ripon will move from the East Central Conference to the Wisconsin Flyway this spring season.

“A few teams from the East Central and a few teams from the Flyway played in the fall, so it was a pretty easy matchup.” Buchholz said. “It was a nice move for the conference.”

The Warriors thumped Jefferson 4-1 in their season opener on Tuesday night and host Beaver Dam tonight at 4:30pm.
