(Waupun) The Waupun Common Council unanimously adopted their 2020 budget this week. The operations budget of $5.9-million dollars includes a tax levy of just under $3.19-million, which would be a $90-thousand dollar increase, or 3.25-percent, from the previous budget. The capital improvement budget totals $441-thousand dollars, $300-thousand of which is earmarked for street projects and $15-thousand would go towards storm water replacement. The budget allocates $25-thousand dollars to paint the city-owned pool, $24-thousand dollars for ADA park upgrades and another $24-thousand is being directed to resurfacing tennis courts. The police department is getting $92-thousand dollars for, among other things, two new squad cars. The fire department will see $57-thousand dollars, which includes one new vehicle and turnout gear. The mill rate is 35-cents higher for Waupun residents in Fond du Lac County at $7.69 per thousand while Dodge County residents will see an increase of 15-cents to $7.59. The price of an average home in Fond du Lac County is $139-thousand dollars and that property owner would pay $49 more this year for the city portion of their tax bill. In Dodge County, where the average home price is $112-thousand dollars, the tax bill would be just under $17 higher under the proposed budget. Equalized property values are up five-percent in Waupun.
