Watertown Teen Makes Initial Court Appearance On Child Porn Charges

(Watertown) A Watertown teen charged with having illegal images of children recently made his initial appearance. Mitchell Roeglin is facing seven felony counts of Possession of Child Pornography by a Person under the Age of 18. Last September, the social networking site Tumblr generated a CyberTip with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. According to the criminal complaint, the tip led authorities to Roeglin’s home. A search warrant was executed and Roeglin’s tablet and cellphone were taken. When questioned, Roeglin allegedly admitted to receiving and transmitting illicit images of children and posting them to his blog. The 18-year-old reportedly said that the content of his blog was (quote) “not suitable for anyone.” A forensic examination of the devices allegedly found multiple images of child porn. If convicted, Roeglin faces over 25 years in prison. A signature bond was set at $1,000 and a judge will decide next month if there is enough evidence to order a trial.
