Watertown School Referendum Will Be on April Ballot

1/19/12 – The Watertown School Board voted unanimously to go to referendum this April where voters will be asked to approve projects that will deal with what district officials are calling critical capital facility needs. In late December, a district facilities advisory committee recommended that Watertown pursue an $8-million referendum that would, in part, help pay for the replacement of the roof at the high school. However, following a meeting held last week where citizens gave their opinion on the referendum, it was cut down to $6.2-million. The board must still get together prior to next week’s council meeting to determine what projects will be a part of that referendum and what will come from the district’s fund balance. The board also said they preferred an April referendum because it would allow for work to be done in the summer when kids aren’t in school.
