Watertown Man Charged With OWI Injury

(Watertown) Cash bond was set at $5,000 Wednesday for a Watertown man accused of injuring a bicyclist while under the influence. Todd Zimmerman is facing a felony count of OWI Cause Injury. Watertown police were dispatched to the intersection of Jamesway Drive and West Spaulding Street Tuesday, November 30th, for a traffic crash with injuries. Zimmerman was allegedly behind the wheel when he was turning right onto Spaulding Street and hit a bicyclist with the front of his truck. Officers reportedly noticed that Zimmerman’s eyes were bloodshot and glassy when speaking with him. According to the criminal complaint, the 52-year-old admitted to drinking a bottle of vodka the night prior. A preliminary breath test reportedly returned a reading of point-two-one (.21). A witness allegedly told authorities that the bicyclist did not stop before entering the intersection. The biker, who suffered a bruised leg, was giving a written warning for suddenly riding into the path of the vehicle. If convicted, Zimmerman faces up to six years in prison. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for January 6th.
