The Watertown baseball team is ready for a busy month of July with the formation of the Badgerland Summer High School Baseball League. Head coach Rich Padron says that his squad is excited to get out on the diamond after the WIAA and American Legion seasons were cancelled and he appreciates those who put this league together.
Watertown will have 21 players on their roster for league. That includes, just one senior, along with nine juniors and eleven sophomores. All of the players on this year’s team are from Watertown.
With no baseball being played this spring, coach Padron says it will take a few practices to get his players back into baseball shape. He adds that a few of the players that will play in various leagues around the area as well so they should have no problem getting into baseball shape. With so many games in a short time-frame, he says he thinks he will have plenty of depth on the mound.
Watertown is also feeling good about being able to play some home games. Early on in the discussions of the league, it was thought that they would have to play all road games because of health restrictions, but Padron says that has recently changed. With local restrictions lifted they will be playing nine varsity games at the home diamond at Washington Park.
Coach Padron adds that his goals for this year’s team are to see players develop their skills and become well rounded players and to just get out and play some baseball.
Watertown will open up Badgerland Summer High School League play on June 30th when they host Hartford at Washington Park. The first pitch is set for 7pm.
