Watertown Football Brings Wealth Of Experience Into 2021 Season

The Watertown High School football team brings back a veteran squad and is ready to take flight in 2021.   All 22 of the Goslings starters penciled in for week #1 against Brookfield East are seniors.

“We played a lot of young guys last year and this is going to be the first year going into the season that we don’t have a junior in a starting spot.” Coach Benji Kamrath told DailyDodge.com. “We certainly will have juniors that are going to play but for us the seniors have shown that they are the best guy in that position.  We are excited about returning so many guys and hopefully that will pay dividends for us coming this season.”

That group of returning players off of last falls’s squad that went 2-6 includes QB Caleb Huff who threw for over 900 yards and 8 touchdowns. He also ran for over 200 yards and 8 TDs. Senior Taylor Walter is also returns in the backfield after a 200 yard, 1 TD campaign in 2020.  All of the Goslings top receivers are back including Ollie Meyers who caught a team leading 16 passes for 281 yards and 4 TDs.

After having to cobble together a schedule last fall because of the pandemic, Watertown will move from the Badger South to the new Badger Large Conference, which also includes; Beaver Dam, DeForest, Janesville Craig, Janesville Parker, Milton, Oregon, and Waunakee.

Before the pandemic season, Watertown has qualified for the WIAA playoffs for 10 straight seasons.  “Our goal is always to make the playoffs. I think that will continue to be the goal for us as long as I’m coach.” Kamrath said. “Hopefully our kids are improving every week, flying around and playing hard.”

The Goslings open up the season on Friday night when they travel to Brookfield East.
