Watertown Fire Hydrant Flushing Begins This Week

The Watertown Water Department will be flushing hydrants beginning Tuesday, September 4th, from 5am to 1pm. Water department officials say one crew will be starting on Main Street between First Street and Eighth Street and a second crew will start on Hospital Drive. Flushing will continue Wednesday through Friday, from 7am to 3pm and the week of September 10th, Monday-Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Hydrants located on streets that are currently under construction will not be flushed. Officials suggest that utility customers try to refrain from using water during the flushing hours each day, and avoid doing laundry, in order to avoid bringing rusty water into their home’s plumbing and staining laundry with rusty water. It’s recommended to wait until after 4pm on flushing days to do laundry and check water color before starting.
