The Randolph boys basketball team can clinch their 2nd straight Trailways West crown as they host Markesan tonight. The Rockets (Overall: 18-1, Trailways West: 12-0) only blemish on their schedule this was a 58-44 loss at the hands of Capitol North leader Columbus on February 10th. Senior Peyton Moldenhauer leads a balanced Rocket scoring attack at 14 points per game. Sophomores Travis Alvin (14ppg) and Sam Grieger (13ppg) also average in double figures for head coach Tyler Fischer.
Markesan (Overall: 15-5, Trailways West: 10-2) ride a five-game win streak into tonight’s matchup. The Hornets had to work last night, picking up a 71-50 non-conferernce win over Waterloo. That win was #300 for Hornets coach John Koopman! Four seniors pace the Hornets in scoring this season, led by Ethan Augustynowicz at 15 points per game. Bryson Zuhlke (13ppg), Max Stellmacher (12ppg) and Christian Schwandt (11ppg) also average in double figures.
On January 16th, Randolph rallied in the 2nd half to erase a five-point halftime deficit to pick up the 47-41 road win at Markesan. Peyton Moldenhauer led the Rockets with 15 while Ethan Augustynowicz had a game high 19 for the Hornets.
