Washington County Sheriff’s Office Warn Of Scammers Posing As Deputies

(Washington County) The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is warning area residents about a new scam making the rounds. The agency says scammers are posing as sheriff’s deputies.

The caller states they are reaching out about a “legal matter” and speak in other generalities. They even have fraudulent voicemails set up in a specific deputy’s name. Sheriff’s investigators are looking into the source.

Deputies who do call the public as part of their duties are more specific about why they are calling and who they want to speak with. They would not request any type of payment or payment information for legal services including warrant service over the phone.

Washington County Sheriff’s officials say if you receive this type of call and want to verify the deputy’s authenticity call their main number 262-335-4378 to make certain.
