Vehicle Sales Tumble in First Half of 2022

(Dodge County) Vehicle sales in Dodge County through the first half of 2022 have seen a sharp decline after rebounding last year from the pandemic. According to the Waterloo-based, auto industry tracking firm Reg-Trak, there were 135 car sales through June compared to 217 through the first six months of last year, a 37-percent decrease. Truck sales experienced a 23-percent drop off with 1,455 rolling off dealer lots in 2022. There were 1,905 trucks sold in 2021. Overall vehicle sales dropped 25-percent from 2,122 sold a year ago to 1,590 this year. Columbia County car sales were down 36-percent through June with 114 sold compared to 180 in 2021. Auto dealers in Columbia County saw 386 fewer trucks sold in 2022 with 935, a decrease of 29-percent. In Jefferson County, there were 121 cars sold compared to 204 in 2021, a 40-percent drop. Truck sales saw a decrease of 32-percent, with 903 rolling off dealer lots compared to 1,329 last year. For the nine-county, south-central Wisconsin region as a whole, vehicle sales were down just over 26-percent. Truck sales were over 15-thousand, a decrease of 24-percent, car sales were down 34-percent with 2,409 sold.
