(Beaver Dam) A domestic incident lead to a vehicle crashing into the Beaver Dam Middle School late Wednesday night. Around 11:15pm, officers responded to the 800 block of North Center Street for what was later determined to be a domestic dispute. The female complainant reported a verbal argument with a male co-habitant who broke a window and left the scene in a vehicle.
Deputy Chief Scott Bahr says the 22-year-old male was allegedly under the influence of alcohol. Twenty minutes later officers located the suspects vehicle and when they attempted to stop it, the driver fled at a high rate of speed eventually traveling southbound on Grove Street. The vehicle left the roadway and struck the north wall of the middle school, near the intersection of West Mackie Street and Grove Street. The collision caused structural damage to the building as well as damage to electrical and water utilities.
The vehicle itself was ablaze for roughly twenty minutes before extinguished. Beaver Dam Police Sgt. Jeremiah Johnson was observed with his weapon drawn engaging in an apparent high-risk traffic stop with the motorist.
The suspect sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was arrested for Domestic Disorderly Conduct, Fleeing an Officer, Operating While under the Influence, Operating While Suspended and Operating without Insurance. No other individuals were involved in the crash which is still under investigation.
Assisting the Beaver Dam Police Department were deputies from the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office, the Beaver Dam Fire Department, the Wisconsin State Patrol, the Dodge County Emergency Response Team, and Alliant Energy.
The Beaver Dam Unified School District announced that a sixth grade open house scheduled for tonight has been postponed.
