(Pardeeville) Two people were seriously injured in an All-Terrain Vehicle accident in the village of Pardeeville on Saturday. The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports that an adult female and a child were injured after striking a tree on a private property around 12:45pm.
Sheriff Roger Brandner says the investigation revealed that a 39-year-old woman was operating the ATV and a six-year-old child was sitting in front of her. She lost control of the ATV and struck trees in the backyard of the residence at high rate of speed. Both riders suffered life-threatening injuries and were flown to UW Hospital Madison. The juvenile was the only one wearing a helmet.
Speed and inexperience appear to be factors in the accident, which remains under investigation by the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office. Brandner reminds the public to always wear the proper protective clothing when operating recreational vehicles and motorcycles.
The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Wardens, Pardeeville EMS, Divine Savior Paramedics, Pardeeville Fire Department, and UW Hospitals Med-Flight.
