(Watertown) A Watertown man charged with burglarizing an apartment in Watertown made his initial appearance in court yesterday (Monday). Twenty-three-year-old Julio Castro is facing a felony count of Burglary. Twenty-eight-year-old Alexander Mendoza made his initial appearance earlier this month on similar charges for his alleged role. Castro and Mendoza allegedly entered the apartment in September of 2019 to take money and drugs that they believed were at the residence. Police found a metal pipe that was used to smash a garage window to gain entry at the scene which had blood on it. Castro’s DNA was reportedly a preliminary match. When questioned, Castro allegedly admitted that he and Mendoza committed the crime. Mendoza denied his involvement. If convicted, both face up to 12-and-a-half years in prison. A signature bond was set at $5,000 for Castrol while Mendoza had his signature bond set at $1,000. Both have preliminary hearings scheduled next month.
