(Waupun) An Illinois man was arrested early Thursday morning after leading authorities on a high-speed chase through Fond du Lac and Dodge counties. The incident started around 1:45am when a Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s deputy attempted a traffic stop for a speeding violation on Highway 151 near County Highway D in the Town of Fond du Lac.
Sheriff’s Sergeant Paul Metzger says the suspect fled at a high rate of speed southbound on Highway 151 reportedly reaching near 115-miles-per-hour. The pursuit continued for a total of 24.7-miles, south through the city of Waupun and then north onto Highway 49 before the suspect vehicle missed a turn and became stuck in a snowbank in the village of Brandon. The driver was apprehended a short time later.
The 26-year-old Illinois man driving the vehicle is facing charges of first offense Operating While Intoxicated, Resisting Arrest, Fleeing and Eluding and Officer, multiple drug charges and a number of moving violations. The driver also had a warrant from Fond du Lac County for Possession of Cocaine.
Reports from Brandon residents and Waupun Police, along with their K9 unit, assisted in apprehending a second suspect. The passenger was identified as a 34-year-old male from Milwaukee and is being charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Resisting/Obstructing.
The vehicle has been involved in prior chases in Fond du Lac County and Illinois over the past few months. In those instances, the driver was not apprehended.
