For the first time in 41 seasons, Cambria-Friesland will have a new head football coach. Jamie Link takes the reigns from Jim Bylsma, who retired from coaching this past offseason after a Hall of Fame run at the school.
‘I’m a generational Hilltopper. A third generation to actually play for the district and as a three year member of Jim (Bylsma’s) staff, I was also the starting left tackle on Jim’s only state championship team in 2002.” Link told DailyDodge.com.
Cambria-Friesland is coming off of a 7-4 season that saw them finish 4th in the Trailways and a trip to the 2nd round of the WIAA Football Playoffs.
As a junior Carter Drews led the Toppers in rushing with 1071 yards and a 12 touchdowns last season. Senior Carson Burmania also returns as the squad’s leading receiver. He had 12 catches for 307 yards and 3 TDs in 2023. Senior offensive lineman Brayden Busse was named All-Region by the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association.
“I think just staying healthy. With our numbers one or two injuries could have a dramatic effect on our entire squad. I’d like to say next man up, but the ability if we lost one or two of our seniors could have a dramatic effect on us.” Link said. “So being able to stay healthy and continuing to improve week by week, I think we will be right there at the end (in the running for the Trailways Crown).”
The Hilltoppers bring back a handful of players that earned All-Trailways Conference recognition in 2023 including; senior OL (1st)/DL(1st) Brayden Busse (Offensive lineman of the Year), senior Carter Drews O-Flex (1st)/LB(1st), junior Alex Raymond DB(2nd), senior Carson Burmania WR(HM), and sophomore Callen Drews OL (HM)
