Three-Time Defending State Champion BDHS Girls Basketball Opens Tourney Play Tonight

The three-time defending WIAA Division 2 state champion Beaver Dam girls basketball team opens up Regional play tonight as they host West Bend East (6-17) at the BDHS Fieldhouse.  Beaver Dam (19-3) has won 11-straight conference championships and earned the #1 seed and a first round Regional bye.  The Golden Beavers are currently ranked #2 in both the wissports.net Coaches Poll and the Associated Press Media Poll behind Hortonville.  Junior Maty Wilke leads BD in scoring at 16 points per contest.  Wilke is listed as Wisconsin’s #1 player in the class of 2021 by wissports.net and has numerous NCAA Division 1 scholarship offers.  Junior Natalie Jens averages 15 points per game while senior Jada Donaldson (UW-Milwaukee recruit) is at 9ppg.  Beaver Dam junior Paige Hodgson also holds a handful of NCAA Division 1 scholarship offers.

 

West Bend East advanced to the Regional Semifinals with a 67-50 win over Port Washington on Tuesday.  Candence Xiong led the Suns with 22 points. West Bend East finished 9th in the North Shore Conference this season with a 2-16 record in league play.   Junior Sarah Staplefelt leads the Suns in scoring at 12 points per game while Xiong averages about 10.  Head coach Asia Rhines-Malone is in her 1st season on the bench for West Bend East.

 

The former Wisconsin Little Ten Conference foes last met back on February 23rd, 2018.   Beaver Dam defeated the Suns 82-28 in the Regional Semifinals at the BDHS Fieldhouse.  Afton Bartol led BD with 12 while Maty Wilke added 11.  Lizzy Bagley paced the Suns with 9 while Abby Trinastic added 8 in the loss.
