Three People From Madison Accused Of Killing Another Person In Columbia County

(Portage) Three people from Madison are accused of killing another person in Columbia County. The sheriff’s office was notified Wednesday by Madison police that a potential homicide occurred in rural Portage.

Madison investigators were looking into a kidnapping from their jurisdiction and uncovered credible information that lead them to believe someone was murdered. Detectives from the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office as well as the Portage and Madison Police Departments followed numerous leads, eventually discovering a deceased male in the township of Lewiston late Wednesday night.

A preliminary investigation showed that on Tuesday the victim was assaulted, bound, placed in the back of his own vehicle in Madison, then transported to rural Lewiston. Once outside of Portage on Klappstein Road near State Highway 16, the victim was removed and shot with a handgun. The suspect’s then returned to Madison where they discarded the victim’s personal property.

During the investigation, three persons of interest were identified and arrested. Authorities say they are 28-year-old Jesse Freiberg who is facing First-Degree Intentional Homicide charges. Twenty-one-year-old Jakenya Patty and 38-year-old Laura Johnson are facing a similar charge but as a Party to a Crime.

The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of family and an autopsy.
