Three Injured In Pickup Versus Transit Bus Crash Near West Bend

11/24/17 – Three people were injured after an accident involving a pickup truck and a transit bus in Washington County. The crash happened at 10:42am Friday in the southbound lanes of Highway 45, just south of County Trunk D in the Town of Barton, near West Bend. Authorities say the pickup was behind a Washington County Shared Ride Taxi bus in the righthand, southbound lanes when the pickup attempted to turn into the left lane but clipped the rear drivers side corner of the bus. The bus spun out of control and came to rest on the driver’s side in the woods along the roadway. The driver of the bus was not injured, was walking around outside and told authorities that the one and only passenger was trapped.  The West Bend Fire and Rescue used an inflation device to lift the bus up so the passenger’s leg could be freed from underneath the bus. The passenger was taken to an ambulance for treatment while Flight for Life was called to the scene.  She was then flown to Froedtert Hospital due to the extent of her injuries. The pickup had pulled over to the side of the road a short distance away. The male driver and female passenger were transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital by ambulance with undisclosed injuries. Highway 45 was closed in both directions for about one hour to allow Flight for Life to land and take-off. The scene was cleared after six hours.
