(Beaver Dam) The Beaver Dam Area Arts Association has a new name. The non-profit, which has been in existence for 52 years, is now called the Dodge County Center For The Arts. Board Secretary Kraig Kasten announced the name change on WBEV’s Community Comment Wednesday.
The new moniker came as a stipulation from their largest benefactor who just donated a $400-thousand dollar building to the group as a permanent home. Last June, the organization left their longtime location at the Seippel Homestead on North Spring Street and temporarily moved to Rasske’s Appliances on South Spring Street. Now they are moving into the former Bank Mutual building at Maple Avenue and North Center Streets. Dennis Giese and Karen Tomko say they just wanted to do something good with the property.
Kasten says the new location will allow the Arts Association to collaborate with downtown assets like the neighboring Beaver Dam Area Community Theatre’s Fine Arts Center and nearby schools, allowing for a planned expansion of youth offerings and after-school activities. While there will be no rent to pay, the arts group will be responsible for property taxes and maintenance. The Dodge County Center for the Arts is holding their annual meeting, which is open to the public, on March 26.
