Tenth Annual Patriot Tour Launches From Beaver Dam Saturday

(Beaver Dam) The Nation of Patriots Tenth Annual Patriot Tour will launch from Downtown Beaver Dam Saturday (5/18). The motorcycle ride was started ten years ago by Waukesha-native Bill Sherer with the goal of providing financial support to the families of wounded servicemen and women.

As part of the ride, one flag is taken to each state in the lower 48. There are 100 ceremonial flag handoffs throughout the country, and each leg has a flag-bearer who fly’s the flag on the back of their bike.

Sherer says the opening ceremony get underway at 10am tomorrow in between Rogers Cinema and Stormy’s. He says the flag and procession participants will depart for Fennimore at 11am.

In years past, a group of Dodge County riders would join the Madison motorcyclists for the first leg of the journey. Last year organizers declared Beaver Dam as the official home of the Patriot Tour, serving as both the beginning and end site of the national fundraiser. Sherer says they have received tremendous support from the city and elected officials.

To date, the Patriot Tour has collected around $900-thousand dollars. The ride will return to Beaver Dam on Saturday, September 7 at Swan Park.
