(Beaver Dam) Organizers with the Patriot Tour have officially announced their 2018 return location. For several years the riders had typically gathered at the Dodge County Fairgrounds. Organizer Wade Fletcher says participants will now do so from Swan City Park in Beaver Dam. Fletcher says the park is equipped to handle everything they need from seating to shade. During a recent appearance on WBEV’s Community Comment, Fletcher told us that they are looking for more involvement from the younger population in the Kids Patriot Tour. He says for the last several years kids have decorated their bicycles in a patriotic way and will ride them around during the return celebration. Fletcher says they are also seeking volunteers for a special demonstration during the send-off event. He says they need individuals to hold all state, branches of service, MIA, POW and the Nation of Patriots flags which will form a tunnel as the motorcycles to ride through. The 110-day, 14,000-mile journey sees multiple motorcycle riders carry one American flag, city-to-city, through all 48 continental states to raise money for veterans and their families. The tour will launch from downtown Beaver Dam on Saturday, May 19 at 11am and return to Beaver Dam on Saturday, September 8.
Riders interested in participating are encouraged to pre-register at www.nationofpatriots.org. Each rider is asked to make a $5 donation that will be used to augment funds raised throughout the Tour for distribution to the families of disabled veterans. Volunteers are needed for launch and homecoming festivities in many varied roles, Sherer said.
