Stray Bullet Strikes Golfer In Lomira

(Lomira) A golfer suffered non-life-threatening injuries after being hit by a stray bullet in Lomira Monday afternoon. Just after 11am, the Dodge County Sheriff’s office received reports that an 80-year-old Fond du Lac man received a gunshot wound while at The Golf Club at Camelot on State Highway 67. While the incident remains under investigation, it initially appears that a 50-year-old Lomira man was attempting to shoot a woodchuck that was on his property. Authorities say a bullet ricocheted off some trees and struck the 80-year-old. He was transported by Theresa EMS to St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac where he was treated and is expected to be released. No further information will be released at this time. Sheriff Dale Schmidt is reminding the public when shooting firearms, it is always important to know your target and beyond. He says firearms are capable of shooting long distances and it is necessary to have a backstop that can stop a bullet from travelling further.
