Stop Signs Set Up On Leipsig Bridge In Advance Of Reconstruction

(Leipsig) Stop signs and concrete barriers have been set up at the bridge on County Highway S near Leipsig due to faulty railings. Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt says in conversations with the highway department, he has found that the railings on the bridge have a defect and it is uncertain they would perform as expected if a vehicle strikes them. He says the bridge is scheduled to be replaced in the summer of 2021, until then, the concrete barriers and stop signs will remain in place. The sheriff’s office has conducted extra enforcement at the newly erected stop signs due to motorists failing to stop. Schmidt says there has already been one serious injury crash that occurred at the bridge since it has been narrowed. He encourages drivers to use caution and notes that the extra enforcement will continue. The sheriff says he does not want to investigate further crashes at this bridge or see anyone else get hurt.
