(Beaver Dam) Secretary-designee for the Department of Workforce Development visited Mayville Engineering Company in Beaver Dam Monday to kickoff manufacturing month in Wisconsin. Caleb Frostman toured the MEC East plant and presented the business with a gubernatorial proclamation in honor of manufacturing month.
Frostman was appointed by Governor Tony Evers last January and had served as senator of Wisconsin’s first district. The Green Bay native credited Mayville Engineering Company for providing quality jobs. He says not only has the company taken advantage of their Wisconsin Fast Forward program to hire and upskill unemployed individuals, they also think about their future talent pipeline by participating in workforce growth programs such as Youth Apprenticeship.
Frostman says manufacturing is a big part of the state’s economy. He says the industry contributed more than $63-billion dollars last year alone and with nearly 475,000 Wisconsinites employed in manufacturing, the impact these jobs have on the states communities is invaluable.
Frostman also sat down with MEC leadership to discuss broader workforce issues like talent attraction and retention and to learn the needs of manufacturers in rural communities.
