State Rejects Village Of Kekoskee and Town of Williamstown Merger Plan

(Mayville) The Wisconsin Department of Administration has rejected the proposed merger of the Village of Kekoskee and the Town of Williamstown Friday. Officials with the department said the proposal did not meet state law, but invited the village and town to submit revisions. The rejected proposal would have seen the village absorb the township which would have been renamed the village of Williamstown, giving the new entity ‘home rule.’ That meant the new village would have been equal to the city of Mayville when it comes to, among other things, annexing land.  Kekoskee and Williamstown have 90 days to re-submit a plan.
